About the Underwood Project
The City of Underwood’s Comprehensive Plan, supported by a $22,500 grant from North Dakota’s Main Street Initiative, was built upon the foundation laid by the community’s 2009-2011 Strategic Plan. This forward-thinking plan was developed with significant input from residents, businesses, and local stakeholders to ensure it reflected the community’s aspirations and priorities. The plan focused on five Essential Initiatives – Invigorate, Refresh, Partner, Enhance, and Welcome – which collectively addressed economic growth, infrastructure development, and quality of life enhancements.
Key goals included fostering relationships with McLean County to drive economic development, improving community branding through updated signage and strategic marketing, addressing derelict and underutilized properties, and identifying opportunities for sustainable housing and business growth.
Serving as a 20-year roadmap, the Comprehensive Plan was designed to guide Underwood toward becoming a more vibrant and dynamic community. Burian & Associates, in collaboration with Praxis Strategy Group and Toman Engineering, worked closely with the City of Underwood to develop this comprehensive and actionable plan, ensuring it aligned with the city’s vision for the future while leveraging available resources and strategic partnerships.
