This summer, we’re excited to welcome Tray Kuntz to the Burian & Associates team as a Civil Engineering Intern. We sat down with Tray to learn more about his background, what inspired his interest in engineering, and what he hopes to gain from his internship experience.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m 20 years old and have just completed my second year at the University of North Dakota. I’m also a tight end for the UND football team and recently finished my second season. I’m originally from Grand Forks and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School.
What inspired you to pursue civil engineering?
My dad and brother are both architects, so I’ve always been around buildings and blueprints. Being exposed to that environment sparked my interest in how structures and communities come together from an engineering perspective.
Why did you choose to intern at Burian & Associates?
I wanted the opportunity to gain real-world experience in civil engineering and learn more about the profession outside of the classroom.
What are you hoping to learn this summer?
I’m looking forward to seeing what an engineer’s day-to-day work life is really like and discovering which area of civil engineering interests me most.
As a student-athlete, what keeps you busy outside of the classroom?
Football is my biggest commitment outside of school, but I also enjoy staying active through workouts, sports, and spending time with friends. Whether it’s playing cards, video games, or pickup sports, I like staying busy.
What’s one goal you have for this summer?
My biggest goal is to gain as much experience as possible during my internship and make the most of every opportunity to learn.
A few quick facts – what’s your favorite place you’ve traveled to, and what’s something people might not know about you?
My favorite place I’ve traveled to is Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. And something people might not know about me is that I’d really like to get a dog in the next few years, probably a Black Lab, German Shepherd, or Bernese Mountain Dog.
