Burian & Associates is excited to welcome Ashly Hall as an Engineering Assistant, based in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Ashly joins our team with a strong academic and research background in environmental sciences and geological engineering, with a focus on hydrology, drought resilience, and environmental stability. Her work blends technical analysis with community-centered perspectives, bringing a thoughtful and well-rounded approach to water resource challenges.

Ashly recently completed her Master of Science in Geological Engineering at the University of North Dakota, where her research focused on drought, soil moisture, and hydrological processes in the Missouri River Basin. Her graduate work included developing and calibrating hydrological models, conducting time-series NDVI analysis using satellite imagery and high-resolution drone data, and creating geographic information systems (GIS)-based story maps to support policy development and public engagement. A key component of Ashly’s research emphasized integrating Western science with Indigenous knowledge systems to inform water governance and climate resilience strategies.

She also holds a Bachelor of Science and two associate degrees in environmental science from Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College, where she built a strong foundation in environmental science and applied research. In addition to her academic work, Ashly has been actively involved in community education, leading hydrology workshops at White Shield High School. Through hands-on snow hydrology fieldwork and modeling exercises, she helped students connect STEM concepts to local water resource issues affecting their communities.

Ashly contributes a robust technical skill set to Burian & Associates, including experience in hydrological and groundwater modeling, NDVI and remote sensing analysis, GIS and spatial analysis, and soil and snow hydrology field methods. Her background in science communication further strengthens her ability to translate complex technical information into clear, meaningful insights.

Steve Burian, President and CEO of Burian & Associates, noted, “Ashly has a unique combination of technical expertise, research experience, and a strong connection to community-based water issues. We’re excited to welcome her to the Burian & Associates team and look forward to the perspective she will bring to our projects.”

Outside of work, Ashly is passionate about mentorship, education, and advancing sustainable water solutions that support long-term environmental and community resilience. We are excited to have her on board and look forward to the contributions she will make at Burian & Associates.
